What Is PolyBuzz? The AI Character Chat App Explained
PolyBuzz is an AI character chat app with 20M+ characters for roleplay and conversation. Free to use, on web, iOS and Android. Here's what it is and who it's for.
PolyBuzz is an AI character chat app. You pick a character — or make your own — and have conversations with it. Think of it like a roleplay partner that never sleeps: anime characters, movie figures, historical people, or completely original creations from other users.
The app used to be called Poly.AI. In May 2025 the developer, Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, rebranded it to PolyBuzz and moved everything to polybuzz.ai. Same app, new name — if you see old references to Poly.AI online, that's why.
What makes it popular
The headline number is 20 million+ AI characters. Most are user-created, which means the library covers just about every fandom, genre, and scenario you can think of. The Google Play listing shows over 50 million downloads, so this isn't a niche experiment — it's one of the biggest AI chat apps out there.
Conversations aren't just text. Characters can talk back with AI voices, and a feature called Live Photos turns chat moments into generated images of the character. You can read the full rundown in the PolyBuzz features guide.
How much does it cost?
The core experience — chatting and creating characters — is free, supported by ads. Paid memberships (Basic, Premium, Ultimate) unlock better memory, advanced models, and an ad-free experience, and there's a separate coin system for one-off premium actions. The pricing breakdown covers what's actually worth paying for.
Who is it for?
Roleplay fans, writers testing dialogue, and anyone who wants an AI companion to talk to. It's explicitly 18+ — the terms require it — and it's built for entertainment, not as a factual assistant. If you're unsure, the safety guide is worth five minutes before you sign up.
Where to get it
Only from official channels: the web app at polybuzz.ai, the App Store, or Google Play. The developer warns it has no affiliation with third-party download sites. Grab the links on the official download page.
